SEAN has been training pastors and leaders for over 25 years and its courses are now available in over 100 countries and more than 70 languages. If your church needs help in teaching basic doctrine or lacks ways of giving adequate theological training to lay people, SEAN can help you.
SEAN's carefully programmed courses bring the wonders of Bible study and the Christian life within the grasp of everybody rather than, as is so often the case, the favoured few. The first few lessons are intentionally simple, but far from being simplistic the methodology is based on scientific research in educational technology. It has been used with equal success among university students and graduates, as well as the functionally illiterate, throughout the world.
What may appear at first to be excessive repetition is in fact carefully graded reinforcement. The value of this only becomes evident when the student is plunged in pursuit of an ever widening and deepening circle of objectives whose achievement depends upon the initial mastery of the simple enabling objectives which underpin them. This hierarchy of objectives is so carefully designed that to skip one, however simple it may look, may make attaining later objectives difficult. See the tasters for actual examples that you can use.
SEAN's TEE (Theological Education by Extension) materials are for enabling and mobilising God's people for growth and ministry, in:
>>> evangelism
>>> initial discipleship
>>> on-going nurture and teaching
>>> training for a ministry
>>> multiplying Christian workers
>>> preparing leaders and pastors
>>> involving all in every-member
ministry
>>> church planting
>>> mission
NOTE... In compiling this page, we would prefer this section on TEE section to be far more comprehensive. Although many TEE writers and users have a deep understanding and appreciation of what TEE is and how it operates, we have yet to write a concise summary suitable for this brief introduction. So... hello out there! Have you a little more time than we have, to write such a piece? The whole ethos of www.seanuk.info is to share and inform, so ...talk to us!
SEAN presents its TEE programme for the preparation of ministers, leaders, workers and church members throughout the Christian church. This provides a great opportunity for training, within the local church context. There is no need to uproot people from their culture, or to deprive the local church of the members' gifts and participation.
TEE programmes aim to provide, from the scriptures and guided by the Holy Spirit, the tools, materials and structures needed for realistic in-service training of members and leaders of local congregations. Through this they grow and mature in their faith as well as discover and develop their gifts; thus they are able to exercise a more effective ministry, and the Lord is glorified - both in the church and in the world.
1. Study groups are formed. Ideally, these should consist of between three and eight students; with more, it is difficult for the group leader/counsellor/tutor to maintain an adequate pastoral oversight of each member. With fewer, the group meetings will usually lack the richness of discussion and interchange of different viewpoints, as well as the mutual support, care and encouragement that inevitably grows in a group.
2. Each student is led through a carefully developed course, using a simple progressive method, which he studies at home.
The questions in the home study are designed deliberately to guide the student to the correct answers in order to help him or her to think through what is being learned. The student is able to relax and let the material itself take the strain they soon realise how much theyre learning.
The material is designed for answers to be written failing to actually write in the leaflet would severely lessen the impact of this method.
The student must remember that, whenever he/she studies the word of God, it is the Holy Spirit who is the ultimate teacher. The student should pray before each study that the Holy Spirit will illuminate the scriptures.
3. In a weekly meeting with other students and a group leader, the theoretical part is evaluated and problems solved.
4. The lessons learned are applied in practical ministerial assignments during the week. These are guided and supervised by the group leader and are closely related to the students' normal daily life (in the family, work-place, local community and church).
5. The group leader uses the corresponding manual to plan, organise and develop the group meetings and practical assignments, adapting to the group's reality.
6. For courses completed successfully, credits are given locally; these lead to the Introduction to Biblical Study Certificate and to the Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Diplomas in Pastoral Theology, awarded by the SEAN Extension College.
If your church doesn't provide continual follow-up for new believers, nor consistent basic teaching on doctrine, nor the theological studies needed for future leaders/pastors, then SEAN can help you, just as it is already doing worldwide, in many denominations and missions in over 100 countries and at least 70 languages.
