I recently attended the SEAN workshop entitled Training - A Vision For Life. The workshop introduced SEAN as an organisation and gave some background as to how SEAN became what it is today.
The morning was spent listening to how SEAN is run, and how the courses are laid out, and also why SEAN is required. Whereas certain courses, such as Alpha, are designed to bring people to the church and introduce them to Christ, the question is always, What then?. Indeed this was a question I had asked myself before the workshop.
The afternoon consisted of a unit from the The Life of Christ Compendium, followed by its test. Reading your Bible is a necessary part of Christian life, but no matter how many times you read your Bible, you never remember everything. However, SEAN puts it in perspective, starting everyone off at the same level and using a repetitive mechanism to drive the message home. The same question is often asked a number of times in different ways, and this is really effective because the first time you need to use your Bible to find the answer, the second time you need it to confirm you have it right and the third time you know the answer so dont need to check.
Later we moved into SEAN Groups for discussion. This was most
effective and the verses of scripture we studied went very deeply indeed.
All in all, to summarise, SEAN is the next step for any church which wishes
to develop and grow. When our church introduces SEAN, I plan to take up the
SEAN challenge and eventually hope to become a SEAN tutor.
